Summer Camp Art Teacher
In summer 2024, I worked as an art teacher at a summer camp in PA where I taught stained glass and glass fusion to students from 8-12 years old. Additionallary, I learned various art activities such as Henna, tie-dye, friendship bracelets, and leather stamping. Moreover, I created a new activity called sketching around camp, where I took students to various locations and drew plain air with music.
Dotsss Children's Museum
In March 2024, I interned at a children’s museum in Chengdu, China. I worked with the directors of the museum and created an unconventional curriculum to teach classes built around glass as a subject for children aged 4 to 10 years old. I learned the concept of the museum: children learn from playing, and I came up with lessons that taught kids the history of glass by coloring booklets, making glass boats out of colorful clays, and finding glass in the museum through touching, feeling the temperature and texture of glass. In every activity, I encouraged students to freely explore their interests and use their imaginations. For instance, some students turned Dale Chihuly’s glass boats into bird boats, space boats, candyland boats and so on. In the end, the children not only learned about Dale Chihuly's work but also turned the boats into their own. I’m amazed by the children’s imagination and their fun ideas. I want to encourage children to create more art in a playful way and explore their interests freely in an inclusive classroom.
